End of 2018/2019 Academic Year remarks
Prepared and Written by Eric Mugabo and Oreste Tuyishimire
Japan Rwanda Youth Cooperation members (Rwanda side) held a general meeting On 14th June 2019. The general meeting convened current JRYC-Rwanda side members and newly recruited members. The meeting agenda, as presented by the outgoing Coordinator Philemon, was:
- Purposive life of JRYC
- Welcoming new members
- Preparations of the upcoming 18th conference
- JRYC Elections
Daniel, the outgoing Media officer, reminded the attendees that every member of JRYC must have the following characters that will help him/her to serve the association to his or her best.
- Team working
- Presence during JRYC activities
- Bringing innovations
- Letting our talents shine
During the meeting, we had a pleasure to welcome new members. Every year JRYC recruits new members who meet the eligibility criteria (check join JRYC for more info). The new recruits have shown that they always bring a burning enthusiasm and passion to serve the goals and mission of JRYC. The new members also help with the smooth transition of replacing the graduating members. After graduation, members don’t leave JRYC family yet they serve as the alumnae and mentors to members who are still at university.
Therefore, after a long selection process, we were very pleased to welcome new JRYC members, who joined in with a blend of skills and passion that we believe will take us higher to a better and better association.
3. PREPARATIONS OF THE UPCOMING 18TH CONFERENCE
As usual, every year JRYC holds conferences in Rwanda and Japan. Following last year's conference in Tokyo-Japan, this year, it's time for Kigali-Rwanda.
We shared the conference preparations progress. Among others, we discussed about places to visit, highlighted activities of the conference, the expected outcomes of the conference, etc.
JRYC members who attended previous conferences also shared their experience to let new members have a picture of what the conference looks like; we can mention home stays.
Each member was called to invest to his/her maximum to make this 18th conference memorable and outstanding compared to previous ones.
4. JRYC ELECTIONS 2019
JRYC coordination committee is updated every year under four posts named Coordinator, Vice Coordinator, Treasurer, and Media team. Committee members are selected through a formal election process. On 14th June 2019 members sat for elections as the closing activity in the annual general meeting.
After the candidates presented their plans for JRYC, we all voted for new leaders of our choice basing on the presented plans and our respective judgment.
The elected committee is, for the first time, a 50-50 gender-balanced and is presented as follows:
